Collecting all the cards, Storybook Pages, and completing all quests will allow you to experience everything that Lost in Random has to offer. I have also encountered the same problem, can't finish Save Little Joe or Confront Little Joe or trade with Little Joe. and then return and see if it unlocks the side quest to talk to Little Joe. There are also some areas between these worlds that you can explore such as the Valley of Dice. The world of Random is full of achievements and side quests that are easily missable, waiting for dedicated players to find them.
